I Have Ordered The Arrest Of The Police Officer Who Allegedly Extorted The Sum Of N1.8m From A Teenager-Delta CP


Delta State Police Command on Monday said that the police officer who allegedly extorted N1.8million from a teenager in Ughelli South be brought to arrest.

The police commissioner in the state, Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah who confirmed this to Journalists at a media confrence held in Asaba, said that the suspect, Nelson Omorah, was attached to Special Protective Unit, SPU Base 5, Benin City, Edo State, also fled leaving behind his AK 47 rifle With serial number B11343170 and thirty rounds of ammunition, during a failed attempt to arrest him.

Recall that a police sergeant allegedly extorted N1.8million from a teenager along DSC road in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State last Tuesday after stopping the teenger identified as Precious Idisi during a stop and search operation in the area and accused them of internet fraudsters, after arresting them and going through the contents of their phones , including their Bank statement.

But Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah, Delta state police boss speaking further, said that the police sergeant with force number 456246 in compay of another policeman while operating in an unmarked Camry car last Tuesday swooped on the teenger and his friends in a stop and search operation where they were accused of being internet fraudsters, adding that the victim reported the matter to the police station two days after the incident, claiming that the suspect who was on a special duty at the hotel along DSC road in Udu Local Government Area of the state, had arrested him and a friend, handcuffed them and forcefully collected the sum of N1.8million from him.

Inuwah disclosed that the victim clamed that the amount of N2million was sent to him by his elder brother residing in Germany to be used for the funeral rites of their late father, adding that the suspect dragged them to Point of Sale,,(POS) Operator identified as Ofuya faith at PTI junction where they were compelled to make withdrawal of N1.8milion .

The police boss said that upon reporting the matter at the police station, the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) DSP Yerimah Ikerodah in company of another policeman made attempt to arrest the suspect, unfortunately, the sergeant suspect had escaped into the thin air, adding” we are going to track him down and detain him even though he is now on the run”
